Hametz is leavened food and is forbidden on Pesach (Passover). Jews may not own, eat, or benefit from hametz during Passover. Where disposing of hametz will result in considerable financial loss, it is permissible to temporarily sell one's hametz to someone who is not Jewish, who owns the hametz during Pesach and relinquishes it after Pesach. This "selling" does not include explicit hametz, i.e. foodstuffs, perishable or not. This is a wonderful opportunity to donate closed boxes and cans to the Brookline Food Pantry. This contract does not free one from the necessity of "kashering" one’s home for Pesach.
Rav Claudia will sell the hametz to the Rector of All Saints Parish, Rev. Richard Burden. Rav Claudia will complete the transaction the morning of Friday, April 11, 2025.
The undersigned appoint(s) Rabbi Claudia Kreiman to serve as my/our agent in the selling of hametz in our possession.
I/We understand that I/we must segregate and mark the areas where this hametz is found. This hametz will then not be in my/our possession from the period starting 12pm, Saturday, April 12, 2025 and ending at 8:30pm, Sunday, April 20, 2025.
I/We will not be permitted access to or utility from this hametz during the aforementioned period, and the buyers will have rights of access to the hametz during this period.
Deadline: Please sign this document, append your address and location of the aforementioned hametz, and return it to the office (or click "submit") no later than noon on Thursday, April 10, 2025.
